While probably not likely, here's a happy thought... Picture "borrowed" from The Eponymous Flower. Thanks.

Directly from Vatican City via the Vatican News Service...
Vatican City, 8 March 2013 (VIS) – The eighth General Congregation of the College of Cardinals has decided that the Conclave will begin on Tuesday, 12 March 2013. A “pro eligendo Romano Pontifice” Mass will be celebrated in St. Peter’s Basilica that morning. In the afternoon, the cardinals will enter into the Conclave. This just delivered from our friends at Catholic Vote:
The Vatican has called the universal church to pray tomorrow at 5 PM Rome time, for the Cardinal-Electors who will soon select a new Pope. That’s Wednesday, March 6th at 11 AM Eastern / 8 AM Pacific Time. While the official start of the Conclave has not yet been announced, the Cardinals will gather tomorrow at the Altar of the Chair in St. Peter’s Basilica for recitation of the Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary, followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and then Vespers. …and the Vatican has called on Catholics around the world to join them in prayer. The latest buzz from Rome is that over 5000 media credentials have been approved from 66 nations in 24 languages. The world is watching because the world is intrigued by the mystery of the Church. The world is watching because the world is seeking answers that are ultimately only found in Jesus Christ and His Church. The Church asked for our prayers. Let's deliver them! Mark your calendar for tomorrow at 11 AM Eastern // 8 AM Pacific Time. Millions of Catholics across the globe will be joining you. One of my favorite blogs, Fr. Z, has a great post from a St. Louis School! The school scheduled a papal conclave to help the students understand what goes one. Remember, for many of them, this is their first experience with a new pope. There are some really GREAT pictures, sure to bring a smile to your face. Take about 30 seconds and check out this great article and pictures HERE.
UPDATE: So I thought that this was a school in St. Louis. As it turns out this wonderful school called St. Louis Catholic School is actually in Alexandria, VA. Still a good idea and great pictures. **All times are Rome Time.** The General Congregation opened this morning at 9.30. This was the first daily gathering of all the cardinals including cardinals over the age of 80 and is set to run until 1.30. After a break for lunch and rest period, there will be an unusual evening session which will start at 5.30. The latest gossip says that an announcement on a Conclave start-date is not expected today. Under the rules of the motu proprio, issued by Benedict XVI prior to his resignation, which allows the College of Cardinals to ditch the standard 15-day waiting period from the moment a vacancy is triggered, all participating cardinal-electors must be present before the College can debate and eventually set the timetable of the conclave which is decided by a majority vote. And just a reminder, Cardinal electors are generally forbidden to communicate with the outside world until a new pope is determined, in fact, they are sworn not to do so. So don’t believe any tweets, blogs, chirps or texts saying otherwise. Just watch the chimney for smoke. Sometimes the old way really is the best way. In the meantime, let us all continue to pray fro the cardinals and the election of our new pope. If you are looking for some prayers, here is a wonderful novena for the election…
Yesterday was a great day for videos. I have posted a couple HERE. It was a historic day and the ability to be able to film it for posterity is truly a miracle. I would encourage people to take the time to look at some of the coverage and consider how these days will be remembered for centuries. I have posted a video of the Pope’s departure from the Vatican and arrival at Castel Gondolfo HERE. As I am sure happened almost everywhere, our local news agencies did “man on the street” interviews about the papal departure. KMOV Chanel 4 interviewed some of our seminarians (classmates of mine) and that video can be found HERE. They did a great job. As I find other good videos, I will post them. If you have a suggestion, please let me know HERE. As we progress into the Sede Vacante and anticipate the election of our new Holy Father, let us remember to take time each day to pray for Pope Emeritus, His Holiness, Benedict XVI as he begins his retirement and, in a particular way, to pray for the Cardinals as they begin the process of the Conclave. Yesterday, while perusing my RSS feeds, I came across a video on Fr. Z's site that I found to be hysterical called Chose Your Pope! It is produced by the Lutherans but they got it right. The big problem is that it is not only funny, but true. How is it that some Lutherans get the Catholic Church more than some Catholics do? Anyway, enjoy the VIDEO. Just about an hour ago, the Vatican Information Service (VIS) released the comments of Fr. Federico Lombardi, S.J., director of the Holy See Press Office who said that Pope Benedict XVI will be “Pontiff emeritus” or “Pope emeritus”. So now we call him "Pope Emeritus, His Holiness, Benedict XVI"? Wow! There are some canon lawyers I know who are consuming large amounts of Tums with their blood pressure medication this morning. But I digress... The Vatican went on to release details about the Pope's final days in office and how he will transition out. you can read the full press release HERE. It is short, but VERY interesting. Some excerpts:
Let us continue to pray for Pope Benedict XVI in these, his final days of his pontificate. |
